Washington Gourmet: Red Wine and Chocolate in Yakima Valley Winecountry

Red wine and chocolate parings from Yakima Valley winecountry

written by Cara Strickland

It’s all about red wine and chocolate during Presidents Day weekend in Yakima Valley wine country. More than forty wineries participate by pairing delectable chocolate treats with sumptuous red wines—a match made in heaven. Explore the wineries on your own or purchase a pass for VIP tours and tastings to make an even more memorable experience (but be sure to bring your own glasses, as the wineries often run out during this popular weekend). To get you started, here are a couple of chocolate and wine pairing tips. First, keep in mind that the wine you select should taste sweeter than the chocolate. Second, taste the wine first, then the chocolate, allowing the flavors of the wine to fully sink in, then adding the chocolate and allowing it to melt slowly in your mouth. Then sip the wine again. Utter bliss.
